Just talkin'

J is on a normal school schedule now. He hasn't heard a new projected date for graduation or for us leaving here. I am gonna cross my fingers and hope that we are leave here before Thanksgiving. I am cravin some Zaxby's or Chick fil'-a....YUM!

A little family news! I am going to be an aunt again. My SIL (brothers wife) is expecting baby number 2 around March. I am hoping its a lil boy. I won't miss this birth either due to the move. My other SIL, is moving with her man to Dallas, TX. He got an awesome job transfer offer. I am a little sad but happy for them. I was hoping to be able to spend lots of time together once we moved but hopefully she will visit often.

Last night, we had some wicked thunder and lightening. I was sound asleep and woke up to imagining fire truck flashing lights coming thru the blinds. I jumped outta bed to see and it was just lightening. It was like that all night and now its really cloudy outside.

S has been writing her letters over and over again. I was able to snap a couple of pictures before she colored over them.

<~~~H, she knows her sisters name starts with that letter. She tells us that she wrote Hailey's name.

The letters of our first name seem to be her favorite to write since she thinks she is writing our full name. Kid are so funny.

~~~> Her J, with a curl.
<~~~D!!
I think H is teething. Gotta run she is calling. Maybe I can get a lil sewing done at naptime.
Towel Wrap
I got the idea from my towel wrap that I got for Christmas. I transformed one of J's old basic training towels into a wrap for S. I used half of the towel and half of a wash cloth, toddler size. It only took about 10 minutes to complete.
Walmart has pretty packs of towels that would be perfect for this little project. Add an applique or two. My wrap uses velcro to close, but it tugs the towel. I think a button would work for H since she likes playing with them.
Walmart strikes again!
Gonna make a handbag similar to this pretty one on "My Longest Year". I found the pink (looks white) material and the ribbon on my last visit. I was looking for a textured material for the bottom portion of the bag but I couldn't find anything. Tonight, I found the black in the remants bin its not textured tho. Hopefully it will turn out nice so I can make some handbags for Christmas presents, wish me luck.
And...knitting needles (or hooks, is that what they are called) to see if I can follow a tutorial to teach myself how to knit! YIKES!
Off Topic: Do they make a swim diapers that fits 12lb babies?? All I can find is 16 lbs and up.
Rambling & pick some fabric!
J went back to school today. His hours have changed so it looks like he will be home earlier in the day now.
I was up at 6:30am on a mission to start getting back on our normal routine. H was up with me so she played in her saucer while she watched mom clean! By 8:30, I just had 2 loads of laundry left. H went down for her morning nap. She got up at 9am then guess what J walks in the door so much for school. I guess they are starting tomorrow now.
I finally got around to hooking the printer up to print out some patterns that I hope to make soon. My Co-op groups are becoming addicting!! Check out these fabrics, its so hard to pick from I don't have a certain project for them just adding to my stash!!! I think I really like the bicycle one maybe for a skirt for S. HELP!
Last night I pulled out my crocheted blanket that has been a work in progress. It's been a long time since I have worked on it. It's only 1/4 th of the way done! I guess crocheting isn't my favorite thing to do. Maybe I can remember to take it on the long car rides.
Dr. Pepper Berries & Cream
I rarely drink carbonated drinks. I make it a treat for myself when we go out to eat.
I love Dr. Pepper! I have been waiting to see if I could find a single serving of the latest creation, Berries & Cream. I haven't stumbled upon it and it was on sale yesterday at the commissary. I decided I'd pick it up hoping that I would like it so they wouldn't go to waste.
My take on it, tastes like regular Dr. Pepper to me just creamier. I thought it was gonna be nasty since I am not a fan of raspberries.
Korker Hairbow Tutorial!
"How to Make Korker Hairbows!"
Please give me credit with a link back. I'd also like to see your completed hairbows!
Materials Needed:
*Oven-Make sure its clean especially the top!
*100% Polyester Ribbon-Grosgrain works best
*1/4 inch wooden dowel-U can use a smaller or larger dowel thats just what I use.
If u want to make alot get a couple dowels. U need to cut them down so they will fit in your oven.
*Wooden Clothes pins (mini style work too)-Do NOT use plastic these are going in the oven!!
*Reynolds Wrap
*Sissors
*Ruler or Measuring tape
*Frey Chek-on the notions isle. The tube I bought was less that $2 and u use very little.
*Thread or Wire-if using thread get a matching color so it blends in.
*Hair Clip-Which ever style u prefer. U just need to be able to attached the bow to it.
*Glue gun & glue (optional)-if u want to use the glue to apply the bow to the clip.
Wrap your ribbon around the dowel placing a clothes pin down to hold the ribbon in place.
Space your ribbon a little bit, make sure u don't overlap it. The tighter u make the ribbon the curlier it will be. Continue wrapping until u reach the end cut the ribbon and place the other clothes pin at that end to hold it in place.
Your oven needs to be clean especially the top! If its not, it can mess up the ribbon. Place Reynolds wrap on the rack and place rack in the middle of the oven.
Pre-heat oven to 250 Degrees. Stay by your oven while u do this to make sure your ribbon doesn't burn.
Put them in for 15 mins take it out and test. Test by removing a clothes pin and uncurl to see if its got the curl u want. If not, put it back in the oven for 10-15 mins check again.
I am doing mine at 250 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
Remove from oven. Let it cool down so u don't burn yourself.
Remove your ribbon from the dowel
Cut your ribbon down to 2.5 cm to 3 cm. Apply Frey Check to the ends! Make sure u do that otherwise it will Frey!
At this point u should have all your ribbon cut and frey check applied.
Stack up your ribbons and wrap thread or use wire. Thread can be a pain to use since u want to pull it tight. Make a knot then a double knot, u want to make sure it's tight.
I used "white" thread so u can see what I did.
Ta'da'...in this pic I have 24, 2.5 cm korker ribbons.
Now all u need to do is apply to a hair clip of your linking. Either use the thread, it will work well if u are tying it to a small clip. Wire or hot glue will work for the larger clips.
Any Questions?
Let me know how your bows turn out!! Can't wait to see them!!
She's 3 yrs old!!
Wahhhhh my baby is THREE!!! I did a lot of thinking back and u know she has spent each birthday in a different place.
She was born in Hawaii 4am. We spent 6 mths in Hawaii then returned to my hometown while J was deployed. Her first birthday was expected to be a little sad for daddy not being there but I knew she would have an opportunity to spend it with all of our family.
While J was deployed I wanted to know everything that was going on in the area he was in so I subscribed to news alerts...every so often I would get one with amazing stories that were thru the Freedom Calls Foundation. I was curious so I emailed they contacted me and it was a miracle J was at S's first birthday party. We will NEVER forget this day. J was there for the ENTIRE party. If u have a loved one in the military definately contact them and see if u can get hooked up. We had media outlets but u can't opt out of that and u can do it on a regular basis.
U can check out these links to see what we were doing 2 yrs ago. July 14, 2004, Valdosta Daily Times, MSNBC Video-what its like, DOD Spread the word this as an amazing organization that lots of families are missing out on just by not knowing about them! If u contact them tell John I sent ya!
So her second birthday was spent in Hawaii as a family..July 14, 2005
Here we are 3 years later in AZ celebrating. It was a great day! Lots of laughter, presents & cake. The phone was ringing off the hook as usual. H was wondering what was going on. She got some games for her L-Max "Cars" & "Mr. Pencil, Learn n Draw"..Playdoh with tools, u can never have enough Playdoh right? A Bug Habitat complete with tweezers & a magnify glass(both plastic of course) with light up fire flys and it makes noise. The poor bugs are squeezed to death before she can get them in the the lil house. She likes them when they are dead they can't get her! Birthday cards with money but she doesn't get to spend that we are the mean mom & dad and it all goes into her savings. She will thank us later in life. An a Hello Kitty book with M&M's attached she ate those already!
Next year is gonna be amazing since we will be closer to home and friends and family will be there. I can't wait well maybe I can..STRESS!
Here are some photos!
Korker Bows
So this is how the Korker Hairbows turned out! The candy cane one is about three times the size of the red-n-white bow. S doesn't have alot of hair so the smaller one will be perfect.
see the size difference
Target
S & I went to Target this afternoon...they have been renovating it since we have been here. It's nice Starbucks, food & a pharmacy I couldn't believe my eyes. It was weird buying cookie dough and a block of cheese from Target. Now they need a fabric department, haha. They have some of the coolest things. I wish I could spend my Amazon gift cards at the store vs. online.
They had the Frog Pod & Eddie Bauer Tandem Stroller that I wanted to check out. The Frog is very cute and its larger than what I expected it to be. I am adding it to the Christmas List for the girls. The stroller I need to check out when both girls are with me to take it for a test drive.
The toy section seems huge!
Yesterday, I picked up my RX's on post. I waited an hour why didn't I just go off post? I will never do that again. I also got to catch up with a friend...the time difference and with the kids it seems like I can't get a good time to catch each other. So we sat on the phone for 2 hours last night it seemed like my teenage years all over again. We has a lot to catch up on!
Love ya girl!
Email
Don't u just love getting emails from friends especially ones you have lost touch with? This morning I woke up to an email from a friend of ours who dh worked with before he joined the Army. The guys worked at Langdale (a lumber mill) in Valdosta, Ga our hometown. J joined the Army and we moved away. His friend, Judd worked there for little bit longer then they moved away to Jacksonville, Florida. While J was home on R&R we were able to spend some time with them before they made the final move. So we kept in contact for a little bit once they got to Jacksonville then we didn't hear from them for a while.
I got up and did the normal routine..sat at the computer to check my email sipping on a cup of chocolate milk. An EMAIL from them...all is well. They moved again, had a second baby (I knew she was preggo with the second baby, last time I heard from them). Here is the what is so exciting. They live about 20 mins from the town we are PCSing too. AMAZING huh?!?! I am SO excited! My SIL lives right about 10 mins away and now some friends...is it NOVEMBER yet?
I am on cloud nine!
Busy Day
Gosh it was a busy day.
I had a lovely doctors appointment. I guess the scale liked me I couldn't believe my eyes a whopping 117lbs, no way had to be wrong. Thats under my pre-pregnancy weight. I think its was off a couple pounds. So they ask me a million and one questions like always, at least they are asking them huh. H's visit with them last week wasn't what I expected for a well-baby visit...it went a little like this, ok she looks good any problems or questions? Go across the hall get her shots and see ya in a few mths. At least it seemed that way.
So this appointment was for my 6 weeks post pardom check up. Yeah, I am about 10 weeks late getting there....bad bad bad. This doc was very nice, no women that I know likes these visits. My #1 concern was this knot in my abdomen that I wanted to get looked. She isn't 100% sure what it is or could be. So I am getting a sonogram done in a couple weeks to check out my stomach for just in case purposes, hopefully it's nothing!
Hubby cooked dinner tonight! Both girls got baths afterwards so I ran to Walmart. Oh, how I love Walmart. I only spent $16..got some grosgrain ribbon, fabric and a couple of patterns some frey check which I almost forgot. I wish we had a Toys R Us here for S's birthday presents! We need to take a lil trip back to Tucson.
Nite!
Pink Bow Dress
I worked on this dress today! I used fusible for the first time on the appliques & lining. It called for sequins to outline the appliques. I used an applique stitch to sew down the bows. I should have choosen a differnt applique to do for my first experience. The bows are overlapped a little much. See the buttons?? My first button experience and I figured out how to drop the feed dog. I had to bring out the instruction booklet. It still needs a hem at the bottom.
The kids are snoozing!! We have a busy day tomorrow & its hubby's last week out of school. S has a birthday this week too. I love birthdays, she asked for a pink cake!
Nite!
Template
Yes, U are at my blog I changed the template. I couldn't take that duck any longer. Enjoy!
Ribbon
Well, here is the ribbon for my Korker hairbows. I was pretty surpised the ribbon didn't burn up in the oven. It looks like candy canes to me. Grosgrain will be better to work with. These need to be cut & I need to apply frey check on the ends. Then finish it up on a clip.
Tonight was pizza night! Don't tell J but I think he has a problem with ordering pizza over the internet. The endless abilities of the internet.
H is calling..Later gators!
4th of July
The Sky on the 4th of July!
We had a laid back 4th of July. It started raining right as S & I were leaving to go see the fireworks. J stayed at home with H since she was sleeping. So we sat in the car watched the fireworks. S started getting antsy after 20 mins of it so I we headed home and we were able to watch from the balcony. Had I known that would be the case we would of just planned on staying at the house with some music, popcorn & enjoyed the show.
Yesterday was the first time I missed Hawaii. They do a pretty good show of the fireworks on Schofield. I remember leaving with so much pride last year. We went to Bayfest and saw Brad Paisley. This time last year I knew I was pregnant with H but didn't actually take a test until a couple days later. Where did the year go?
Today lil munchkin had her 4 mth drs appt. S wanted to join along so I let her go even tho I knew she would be bored sitting at the drs office. H is 12 lbs and 24 in long...she is growing so fast. The doc said we can start giving her cereal, we didn't start that with S until she was closer to 6 mths old. I am not really impressed with the medical care here. She got 4 shots too! After waiting the 15 mins to see if she had a reaction she was fast alseep. I dropped her off at home with J, so S & I went shopping.
Lets fast forward a little. DH is dishing out ice cream for S & I. I *heart* Ice Cream. He hands me my bowl and I mumble the lack of sprinkles. He then returns with the remaining sprinkles and pours the container on my ice cream. Now I have sprinkles and ice cream vs. what I really wanted ice cream with sprinkles. It was rather funny u had to be here to get the humor out of it. Poor S was concerned that we no longer had sprinkles for her.
I hope the weather is nice but not HOT tomorrow so we can go swimming! I made Korkers tonight. When I am all done with them I will post up some pics.
Sadness
So much sadness. A lady on the HMW message board lost her husband on July 1st while in Iraq. She has a lil one and is pregnant with baby #2. I just can't imagine what she is going thru.
Two other inspiring ladies who are in her shoes...u can read their blogs Life After Iraq & Learning to Live.
Pillowcase Dress
Well, I went back and transformed this top that I wouldn't wear back into the original project it was planned for..a Pillowcase dress for S.
I removed the double fold bias tape and replaced it with single fold bias tape for the arm holes. Orginally, I ran a white ribbon thru the casing but it was too thick and didn't really look that good. This ribbon looks much better. I need to stitch the ribbon in place to keep it adjusted, to fit her.
It's been overcast here today and it even rained a little. S is playing the ABC games on Starfall with J & H is enjoying some tummy time. Off to get dinner started!
Monkey Shorts
I made these monkey shorts today for S. I couldn't get her to stand still long enough to get a decent pic with her wearing them. I think they would have been cuter as pants.
Another top
What have I accomplished this week? Hubby is on a 3 week break and our routine is outta wack.
I finished S's top. I was hoping it would have been a little longer. Now, I need pics of them together.
Ramble & a project
It's been pretty quiet around here. J finish up his FAA portion of schooling and past the final test. I am glad that class is over with. I think the next class is more hands-on, he has an overall average of a 92. I am so proud of him!! He has a break in class now it will give him a break and more family time. Hopefully, it won't push back our time for leaving here too far back.
Hubby's uncle that lives in Flordia was in the reserves and he just joined for active service. I am so excited for them. They are going to Ft. Drum talk about having all four seasons. I hope they like it up there.
We went to Tucson today to go shopping and we ate at Olive Garden. I had a BAD headache by the time we got home, which I think was from the sun. Some meds & sleep helped. I can still feel it a little bit but it's so much better than it was when we got home.
I finished up this dress this weekend. I haven't completed the bloomers yet. It looks like it fits H in this picture but the arm holes are a little big its a 6 mth size. I can't wait to make some variations of this dress using a solid print, rick-rack, pockets, buttons vs. the tie back. The pattern also has a hat. The fabric was $1 a yd for both the printed & lining material, good deal huh.
Cars
Well, we hit the movie theater yesterday with the girls we saw "Cars". It's was great movie. We went around lunch time probably wasn't the best idea. S fell asleep half way thru and woke up at the end. H slept for maybe 5 minutes. Isn't this supposed to be the other way around. DH timed the previews 20 minutes, isn't that a bit long? On the way home we stopped at DQ for some ice cream. Once we got home it seemed like the day was over. I hate when that happens.
So we are back to Monday again, wash day. I had one load to wash and one to fold. S & I had salad and pizza for lunch. We baked a cake this afternoon. It seem like everyone is moving from here 3 apartment within eyesight are vacant. Hopefully, we will get some good neighbors.
Off to get dinner started.
Saturday, June 17, 2006
Woot
My new license plate came in the mail today!! I no longer have that ugly rainbow from Hawaii on my car. Today was a lazy day. We were supposed to go to the movies but S got in trouble this morning so she lost that reward. We are planning on tomorrow now.
We had pizza for dinner and I am baking some fresh bread.
PJ pants
Lookie here...
Hot off the press!!
Aren't they cute. My second stab at making pants this time with the real material. This pair of PJ pants they are going to my lil neice K, for her upcoming birthday. I think I am gonna make a pair for her momma too so they can match. K will get a kick out of it.
time flies
Yes, I ate salad when I was little. I had to ask my momma. She then reminded me how I would pick carrots and peas out of my grandmothers garden and eat them. I remember the carrots and peas, I would help my grandmother snap off the ends after we picked the peas. Fresh veggies yum! Running around in her back yard with the water sprinkler. Jumping on the riding lawn mover with my grandpa. My summer trip to NY so much fun. My aunt took me to NYC to explore I remember going into a the big toy stores and taking pictures with the huge stuff animals and characters. We rode the ferry...went to Donald Trumps place, I remember my aunt taking a picture inside the building I still have it....if I could only go back in time.
Carvel, OMG they have one at our next duty assignment..I am so freaking excited!! The girls and I will be visiting often!! Just 4 more mths!!
It's finally Friday, this week has gone by so SLOW.
Kids
Ever heard this?
S: Mom, I need a new drink..(she drank all of her milk)
Me: Ok, what do u want? More milk?
S:hmm
Me: What do u want, Milk or Juice?
S: I want water.
Me: ok sure, water it is
~a minute later, maybe two~
S: Momma, water makes my tummy hurt
I should have known she really didn't want water.
This goes with the salad episode, dinner a couple night ago we had pasta n salad. S loves noodles so I made her a nice bowl cuz I assumed she would eat it. So I go and make my salad come to the table and she always looks at my plate to see what I have that she doesn't have. Well, I didn't make her a salad figured she would just want her noodles. NOT, she wanted a salad..she ended up eatting two bowls of salad and couple of bites of her pasta.
So I asked myself, "I wonder if I ate salad when I was S's age?"
I can't believe my baby is gonna be 3 in a month!!
YAY!
Oh my hubby, I love him so much. I just got up did my morning routine came to check my email and what do I see. Well I opened up the laptop and he wrote on a piece of paper "Have a wonderful day, Love Josh". On the screen the offical report date and duty station & a copy of the email back to branch. I know he is happy. I hope u have a great day too babe.
Hopefully, he won't have any delays in school so we can get outta here & be almost settled before the holidays start rolling around.
I am so excited and I just can't hide it...yeah I am not a singer haha
Happy!
Today was wash day, joy joy. I have one load to finish tomorrow along with washing my fabric I just bought. S helped me fold and put away her clothes, put her sheets and comforter back on her bed. H slept alot today must be having a growth spurt or something. She loves her saucer toy.
We got a duty assignment 3 weeks ago talk about being in the state of shock but dh was able to talk to branch. He replied back to dh, he removed that assignment and it's going to be changed but hasn't been updated yet so its blank again. We are waiting on it to appear on dh's record but its where we want to go and hopefully he will stay true to his word which I think he will. I still haven't wiped the smile off my face of pure happiness.
So......the plan is now to try and buy a house at our next duty location. We are done with the on post stuff and living in apartments. We did that too long in Hawaii, so now that we are back to realistic figures why not buy right. I can't wait to have a house for many reasons including a big backyard for the girls run around in. Hopefully, it will all work out. I think we are as ready as we will ever be.
Keep the prayers coming! As momma said, "Dreams do come true!"
My pregnancy hormones must be going back to normal cuz I am shedding hair like CrAzY!! I did this with S its aggravating.
Off to have a brownie and a big fat glass of milk then time for bedtime so I can start my day tomorrow.
Soup n shoppin
It's the weekend YAY! Dh made his homemade Minestrone it was YUMMY...it will prolly be even better today since it got to sit overnight.
I hit Walmart yesterday evening the $1 fabric table was LOADED. I could have spent HRS going thru it all. I did leave with 16 yards of fabric. I really need to go get more while its there. I need a craft room in my future house just for my stuff with a door so I can leave everything out haha. This lady really freaked me out when I was checking out. She put her HANDS in my hair then commented that it was pretty, well thanks women but u didn't need to touch it. She then talked about curly hair being ugly and humidity...FREAKS!!
This town is BORING! I am ready to move so I am counting down the days.
Friday, June 09, 2006
Can I get any happier? Probably
I am so excited for our family...my babies, my husband, our family & friends back home! Damn today was a good day! Thanks for your prayers they worked!
new hobby?
Check it out!! PANTS...they look like pants too. I remember trying to sew when I was younger and really making some ugly stuff on my mom's sewing machine.
This is actually done from a pattern for PJ's. I picked up some el cheapo fabric to test out my abilities before diving face first and goofing up. Woot, I did it and they look pretty good in person. Now I need to pick up some fleece and make lil S some real PJ's. This is the pattern. I guess I have myself a HOBBY!! I wanna make the kiddos Halloween outfits this yr.
Monday, June 05, 2006
Blah, Blah
I don't have much to say.
Last night we ordered pizza!! It was so yummy and best of all no cooking involved. I haven't been motivated to cook lately. We got 2 pizza's medium, 2 orders of breaksticks & a bag of salad for $23 bucks. What a deal huh, in Hawaii it would have been much more than that & we had plenty of leftovers for lunch.
Can you guess the color of the day?
Yep, Blue it was! This is everything S collected after coloring blue pants & blueberries in her workbook. I love when u see results from teaching kids. She is counting and knows her ABC's. She can write the letters H, J, O, T without any help. She can trace all of the other letters. I am so proud of my baby.
DH & S are grocery shopping. I hope they find some decent fruit the commissary seems to always have crappy fruit. DH's picking up stuff to make minestrone soup. Yum, can't wait to eat it. He passed his test today YAY!
The clouds are coming over and its getting windy again. I guess its that time of the year!
Sunday, June 04, 2006
Rain
Look at that sky! I wish it would have brought some rain. I am ready for this monsoon season to start up. I miss thunderstorms & heavy rain!!
Hubby started the FAA portion of his schooling. I'll be glad when he is done and doing his job on a regular basis. He has been studying alot this weekend so I hope it pays off. He is in his second mth/third class of schooling doesn't seem like it. He has mths to go but I think its going to fly by rather quickly.
My parents anniversary was on the 2nd. They have been married for 32 yrs, many moons ago. Happy Be-lated Anniversary Mom & Dad! Yesterday, dh's cousin got married! Congrats Ann. Today is my cousin's birthday, Happy Birthday Luke! Two yrs ago S, my mom & I were all in NY for it. Seems so long ago.
Miss Ya'll.
No, that doesn't sound good. Waiting, tick tick.....
I am done..
with the Hunt. Gosh, I was racking my brain on the last store but I finally found it. I guess I just had to sleep on it. It has been extended a couple more days but it will be interesting to see the results of how many people did it and how many found all of the icons. They had OVER 1000 people registered but quite a few got bored with it or just stopped. I can't wait to see the results.
H had me up at 6:30 grrr, I guess she didn't want me to sleep in. It's now almost 12 and I feel like it should be 3 o'clock. S is being momma to her lil Annabelle she has been playing with her all this morning. She now has her in the stroller with a blanket, baby bottle & a rattle. What a good momma! Thank goodness she hasn't figured out that she drinks water and cries real tears. It would be non-stop crying (for the babydoll that is) and momma will u get me some more water!
Ok, off to get lunch going! I am hoping I can attempt a little sewing project this afternoon, we shall see.
Just one..
One more diaper to find & I will have completed hunting 175 icons from 175 different websites. Boy that was fun! Maybe I will win some prizes and maybe not but I found some great sites and lots of talented WAHM's.
The template is all screwed up for the time being, grrr!
